Spring Flowering Bulbs
Spring flowers such as tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and alliums are planted in the fall. Plant bulbs with pointed end up & roots down. A general rule for planting bulbs is to plant them 3 times as deep as the bulb is tall. Water bulbs after planting to settle the soil.
Care after flowering: Avoid cutting back leaves until they die naturally. Plants need the leaves to produce food for next season. Feed annually with a bulb fertilizer.

Autumn Gardening
Fall is the season to lay the groundwork for next year's masterpiece in your corner of the world. It's a great time to plant perennials and container grown nursery stock. The warm soil encourages root growth. Roots continue to grow until the ground freezes. In early spring roots continue to grow & top growth begins—it gets a jump start on the spring season. While the same plant planted in the spring gets a slow start due to cool soil. The one planted in the fall has had time to establish itself and will hold up better in the heat & drought of summer.
